Stepping out to an offsite location just west of East Harlem, at The Africa Center on Fifth Avenue, our team could feel the excitement and energy bouncing off from the audiences waiting to enter the venue. With Areas collections, greatness is expected. From attention to detail, architecturally structured silhouettes and innovative themes there is much to get excited about.
This season in particular for Area marks a new beginning - their first-ever collaboration with the luxury lifestyle brand myreality.
In an effort to give back to New York City, a community that had uplifted the designers and their devotion to fashion art and design, Area and myreality donated the proceeds of the Area x myreality art object accessories to The Africa Center. A center that for years has uplifted many creatives.
Fall/Winter 2020 for Area had a number of moving elements - bling and grandiose structure being two main ones. For the brand, they pulled major influence from Madame Grès of the major fashion house Grès and Japanese Costume Designer Eiko Ishioka. Grès known for draped dressing and Ishioka for more architectural structure, really shows this blend of two different worlds that Area effortlessly conveys.
Area also explores the idea of fantasy, escapism and realism all at the same time. Alongside these dream-like pieces, the designers anchor the collection into reality by playing with textures and classic ideas of sophistication, such as French wooden parquet floor and British herringbone. A celebration of duality and togetherness, AREA continues to grow beyond its Downtown. roots, connecting communities and spreading its ethos of inclusiveness and irreverent glamour and the beauty of the craft.
