Staying Committed To Your Health Goals



If you’re like me, trying to achieve your health goals can feel like a roller coaster that just won't stop. One minute you’re sipping on that iconic FRESHII green juice and the next your stuffing your face with deep dish pizza from little caesars and feeling instant regret.

We’ve all been there.

It can be tough making moves towards a healthier lifestyle - but it doesn't have to be. Over the years of perfecting my health routine and finding my happy medium I've nailed down a list of tips that helped me stay on course. So if you're like me and trying desperately to stay on track, here are my top 5 tips to committing to your health goals:

1) Be realistic.

There’s nothing more damaging to a healthy lifestyle than unrealistic goals. I mean, I’m sure it’s possible to cut gluten, dairy, meat, excess calories, processed foods, sugar, and trans fats in a day but is it realistic??? It might work short-term but a few weeks down the road your body might not take a liking towards your drastic change.

Making dramatic cuts can lead to you giving up or worse binging. When creating goals, make sure they are achievable. Ease out of bad habits and learn to take your time with each step to reaching your end goal. The best and most lasting results aren’t made overnight.

2) Be In Tune With Yourself.

Whether you have a journal, take mental notes, or even if you’re just being more aware - monitoring yourself will help you become more in tune with the progress your making as well as point out inconsistencies and what triggers them.

For example, if every time you are sad you walk over to Dairy Queen and order an Oreo Blizzard with a giant side of chocolate sauce, it might be time to look into the motive behind ordering that blizzard. Learning what keeps you in check and what damages your progress can aid your efforts in attaining your end goal.

3) Don’t Excessively Restrict Yourself

This is a big point for all the people out there who try to sneak their way to their dream bod. Excessively limiting yourself is an extreme that a lot of people take that isn’t very helpful in the long term. With extremes, you can’t have one without the other, meaning; if you’re starving yourself or cut out a lot of things that you enjoy eating, more likely than not you’ll have super strong cravings later which could potentially lead to binge eating and ruining your progress.

Instead of focusing on restricting your diet, try focusing on portion control and replacing unhealthy foods with nutritious ones. Try slowly winding off bad habits so your body can adjust more easily and you can avoid that dreaded binging phase.

4) Be Vocal

If you’re going on a health quest that requires you to eat out less or create more tailored food, it’s important that you are vocal about it to your friends and family. This not only makes them aware of your healthy lifestyle but it also holds you accountable for your actions. No longer will your parents suggest Dominos for dinner and if you suggest to a friend that you’re craving McDonalds at 2AM - they’ll probably say no or ask you how it fits in with your lifestyle change.

5) Put Your Goals Out in The Universe

I am a firm believer in that if you put something out into the universe, if you truly envision it, it will happen. Telling yourself that in 2 months you’ll be the healthiest version of yourself will put you in the right mindset to actually achieve the goals that you have set out. So, stop what you're doing right now and tell the universe that you're going to achieve your goals, because you will! We're rooting for you!

Achieving your health goals can seem like a daunting task at first, but with the right attitude and mindset you are well on your way to attaining them!
