Holiday Cocktails and How to Make Them

The holidays are one busy time and with all the work parties and family gatherings there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself with a drink in hand on more than one occasion. But that doesn’t mean you have to drink lukewarm beer or the same pinot grigio you’ve been drinking since college. These festive drink recipes put the cheer in cheers.

Cranberry Red Sangria.

I made this sangria at my family’s thanksgiving dinner back in October and it was such a huge hit I’ve already been commissioned to make it again for Christmas. To make it, take two bottles of red wine, three cans ginger ale, one small bottle of Captain Morgan’s spiced rum, and about 1 cup of cranberry juice. Combine the ingredients in large pitcher add 2-3 cinnamon sticks. Garnish with frozen cranberries, fresh cut apples and some blackberries. This will make enough to serve 6-8 people.

The holidays are not complete without eggnog, and this is probably the easiest drink to make. You can find pre-made eggnog at your local grocery store and you just need to add the alcohol. Pour the eggnog in a glass with some ice and add rum or baileys. Top with cinnamon or nutmeg, for a little something extra. This recipe can make as much or as little as you want, depending on how much eggnog you buy.

Hot Toddy.

Hot Toddies are another super easy and super delicious drink. Just combine hot water that has been previously boiled in a kettle with some whiskey in a mug. Add 2 teaspoons honey and 2 teaspoon lemon juice, to taste. Stir and then garnish with a lemon wedge and/or cinnamon stick. This is enough for one, but you can always double the recipe to make more,

Dark and Stormy Moscow Mule.

With or without the classic copper mug there’s no doubt that Moscow mules are delicious. All you need to make it are 2 ounces of spiced rum and 4 ounces of ginger beer. Combine in a glass with lime juice, garnish with a lime wedge, and you’re good to go.
