Dedicating time to take care of ourselves is absolutely necessary when it comes to happiness, relaxation, success, and healing. Many of us get pulled into a busy work schedule or a hectic social life, often leaving us stressed and overwhelmed. But did you know that making sure your schedule is cleared for a single day of self-care can do wonders for your mind and body?
On July 24th, International Self-Care Day is here to remind us that it’s important to take just a little bit of time off and focus on ourselves. Luckily, there are several ways to do that, for both women and men!
Stretch and Sweat Sesh with Oxygen Yoga & Fitness
Everybody can use a little stretching and deep breathing to rejuvenate and loosen up those muscles. We recently tried a power class at Oxygen and it was EVERYTHING! You can choose from a variety of classes such as barre fusion, hot yoga, flow, HIIT, power, core, or a simple candle-lit hour of stretch. After a great class with an amazing instructor, we walked out of the heated studio feeling refreshed, strong, and a little sore in all the greatest ways. Definitely on our to-do list for every self-care day from now on. What’s more, you can try it out for a week for only $10!
What’s better than a nice long shower? A nice long shower followed by a soothing skin pampering session. We’re currently loving the plant-based lotion like the award-winning shea butter and jojoba oil Botanical Body lotion by 1’Lux. The scent is divine, and the lotion feels truly luxurious. Accompanied by the Velvet Blonde Emollient Body Oil and RSVP Oui Lip Mask, 1’Lux is all you need to give your skin the love it requires.
At-Home Spa & Facials
So we’ve covered the skin basics for your day of self-care, and now you can treat yourself with a little extra something! Don’t forget to throw on a robe first so you get the full spa experience. Although fuzzy robes are our go-to, the +40 temperatures have given us a new favourite. For the summer we’ve been loving this unisex 100% bamboo robe from House of Jude. It’s so soft and airy that you’ll consider living in it.
Now from the comfort of your own home (and in nothing but a robe!), start with your favourite face mask followed by a Jade roller like this one from Cocoon Apothecary. It’s never been easier to use a hand-held facial massage tool without having to schedule a facial with a professional. We love this Jade roller because it has 2 heads: one for the face and neck, and a smaller one to use on the eye area. Both will help reduce puffiness and increase circulation so your face wakes up looking youthful and glowing.
Light some candles!
If you know you’re going to be at home, make sure to stock up on fresh scented candles. We love this orange cantaloupe scented candle by Fruits & Passion and wouldn’t mind having one lit in every corner on self-care day. They’re made of plant-based wax so you don’t have to worry about burning regular wax and the brand takes pride in being eco-friendly with all their products. Plus, they’re Canadian and we love to support our own!
When In Doubt, Box It Out at DROP Boxing & Athletic Wellness
If you read the aforementioned suggestions and feel like you’re the type of person to take the high gear approach to self-care, boxing is an excellent way to release stress and take care of your mind and body. We’re huge fans of DROP classes on Spadina, especially if you feel like you have some anger or frustration that needs to be remedied! You’ll finish the class feeling your strongest and most powerful self—it’s one of the most rewarding steps you can take when it comes to self-care.
